Wentworth James Group has engaged with a new client and a world leader in Design, Manufacture, Installation & Commissioning of Heavy Machinery (Intelligent Hoist & Lifting Equipment) based in Warwickshire. A Fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior or Lead Control Systems Engineer to join on a permanent basis.
The position
The ideal candidate should be proficient in Siemens TIA portal and Siemens PLC programming. As a Controls Engineer, you will lead the development of PLC control software and overall control system design for hoisting and winch applications within the mining industry.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will receive guidance and work instruction from the Project engineers allocated for each active project. You will be expected to adhere to the company’s software development rules and document control procedures to deliver the software code for all aspects of the overall control software for a given project. You will be responsible for breaking down the software development workload and allocating among the team.
The position entails getting an understanding of the software to hardware interfaces with the control’s system inputs and outputs, such as rotary encoders, variable frequency motor drives, safety relays, hydraulic valves and human – machine interfaces (HMI).

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the development and testing of PLC control software for hoisting and winch applications in the mining industry.
• Follow the work break down structure and allocate software development related tasks to the engineering team.
• Contribute to the overall control system design for hoisting applications.
• Follow the company’s software development rules and document control procedures.
• Provide input and contribute to the development of the functional design of hoisting systems.
• Gain an understanding of the relevant input & output devices and develop software to interface with these devices. (sensors, motor drives etc)
Essential Qualifications:
• Minimum 8 years of experience in control and instrumentation, ideally in heavy industry.
• Proficiency in Siemens TIA Portal and Siemens PLC programming. (S7-1200/1500)
• Demonstrable experience in carrying out risk analyses and implementing functional safety.
• Working knowledge of IEC 61508
• Working knowledge of Wincc Unified.
• Demonstrable problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and within a team.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with other engineers, managers, and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of modern drive systems such as ABB ACS880
Desirable Qualifications:
• Experience in developing and testing PLC control software for hoisting and winch applications.
• Knowledge of industrial network architectures (Profinet, Profibus, Modbus)
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems and design.
• Previous experience in working in a highly regulated industry
• Knowledge of Mining Regulations
• Knowledge and use of IEC62061 as well as DIN EN ISO 13849
• Knowledge and practise of IEC 61131-3
